Hello Everyone! Thanks for finding us. We welcome anyone interested to take a look at our site, contact us, or leave constructive feedback…..
While Daniel is actively dedicated to animals as much as I am, he is a fireman for two departments and often away working, but my day job is in the companion animal industry as well as maintaining our animal sanctuary. Working at a veterinary clinic, I am allowed exposure to not only the human/animal bond but the medical aspect of that connection as well. It is through both of these components of companionship that we forged our commitment to the rescues that we care for.
Daniel and I have been rescuing animals for more than fifteen years. We finally realized after so many persons asking “How do you do it?” that we were fulfilling a unique niche, something that other rescues were not doing. At that point in time, we realized that our endeavors had form, function, and merit and that, while many cannot or will not do what we do, they do want to help and be a part of our efforts, so we became a non-profit in June 2011, and very recently finished applying for our 501 (c) 3 status with the IRS. We are awaiting their reply to make it official and will then begin our fundraising campaigns that will allow anyone’s generosity to be applied as a tax credit. Of course, donations are still able to be accepted and are greatly appreciated. The interesting aspect of how the IRS works is that once we are approved, any donations we have received can retroactively be applied as tax credit back to the time of incorporation, so thank you to all of you who have given generously. We will notify you as soon as we get an update on our status….
UPDATE: We have have attained our official 501 (c) 3 status and state tax exemption! Any donations given are able to be counted as tax deductions retroactively to 06/15/2010.

Thank you so much for saving the little chihuahua from Collin County
We are only too happy to help. Her situation is exactly why Long Way Home was created. I plan to post regular updates for her on my new blog. Check back to see how she is doing;) Also, a big thank you to Leigh and John of Bernie’s Pet Help who is transporting her. Without them, this save would have been much more difficult.
Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
