About Us
Daniel and Gwendolyn are the co-founders of Long Way Home, Inc. Together they share the joy, heartache, reward, and work of running and maintaining the sanctuary for the animals. They have been married since 1991 and began rescuing animals shortly after that when they found Pierre in 1992 at an apartment complex and then Emery on the campus of Sam Houston in 1993. Since then, they have known and loved many animals that have left an indelible mark on their lives.
Gwendolyn is a suma cum laude graduate of Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in English and a B.A. in French. She taught secondary English and French for seven years with the last two being in the CSISD. Since 2004, she has been the client services manager at Aggieland Animal Health Center & Pet Resort. She enjoys studying Linguistics and French, working out, traveling with Daniel to Vermont, Montreal, Quebec, and Paris each year, and reading in her spare time.
Daniel has been a Houston Firefighter since 1983 and a captain with the Magnolia Fire Department since 2003. He enjoys traveling with Gwendolyn each year, golf, tennis, and bowling in his spare time. He is on the Storm bowling ball amateur staff representing the company in tournaments since 2000.
Daniel and Gwendolyn would like to thank Mama Sam, Heather, Jan, and April specifically for being a vital and crucial part of their "dream team." Their love and encouragement along with all the dedicated volunteers who give so generously of their time and resources keeps our vision clear and the future of animals in our community bright.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Ace Fencing who supports our efforts through generous donations and who builds the quality fencing that gives us peace of mind to know our animals are safe and secure.
